TIME names Oikocredit agritech partner Farmerline’s Darli AI as one of Best Inventions of 2024
Farmerline’s innovative AI-powered regenerative farming mentor recognised for bridging language gaps and offering sustainable agricultural solutions to smallholder farmers.
TIME news magazine has ranked Farmerline’s Darli AI as one of the year’s 200 most “groundbreaking inventions”. Darli AI enables small-scale farmers in countries such as Ghana and Kenya and others across Africa, Asia and South America to interact directly in over 27 languages – including Swahili, Twi and Yoruba. Through WhatsApp chatbots and an interactive voice response system, farmers can call or text to engage with Darli AI.
The Darli Helpline currently has 1 million listeners who can receive real-time advice on everything from fertilisers and crop rotation to market access. Darli AI teaches regenerative farming practices, enhancing yields while protecting the environment; it tracks knowledge transfer to ensure farmers effectively apply key insights; and it monitors and measures impact by capturing data on yield improvements and carbon sequestering,
Based in Ghana and an Oikocredit equity partner since 2022, Farmerline works with agribusinesses and farmer associations to support African farmers with high-quality fertiliser and seeds, free education on climate-smart farming practices, and access to international markets to create lasting wealth for them and their communities.
Farmerline CEO Alloysius Attah said: “There are millions of farmers in rural areas that speak languages not often supported by global tech companies. Darli is democratising access to regenerative farming, supporting farmers in their local languages, and ensuring lasting impact on the ground.”
