An example of this is an organic farming cooperative.Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera ACPC Pichanaki is a coffee farmers’ association located in Junín, Central Peru. Pichanaki was founded in 2000 and currently represents around 270 small coffee farmers.
Pichanaki was created to sell the coffee produced by its members’ under better conditions without intermediaries and to provide production and technical assistance in order to raise quality levels.
Pichanaki holds organic, fair trade and bird-friendly certification and sells its products on the international specialty market. Over the years, the number of members has grown significantly, as have production and sales.
The organization is strongly committed to improving the coffee quality and production to benefit members and grow its sales portfolio. It also seeks to improve members’ quality of life through a number of social projects on food security and women empowerment.
